ஓடினால் புலி துரத்தும் என்பதை அவன் அறிந்திருந்தான். அதனால் அசையாமல் நின்றுகொண்டான்.

அதே நேரத்தில், அருகிலிருந்த புதர்களில் இருந்து சத்தம் கேட்டது.

ஒரு **காட்டு யானைக் கூட்டம்** அந்தப் பக்கமாக வந்து கொண்டிருந்தது!

புலியும் யானைகளைக் கவனித்தது.

அந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி அருண் மெதுவாகப் பின்வாங்கி, அருகிலிருந்த ஒரு பெரிய மரத்தின் பின்னால் ஒளிந்துகொண்டான்.

ஆனால் பிரச்சினை அத்துடன் முடியவில்லை.

அவன் காலுக்கு கீழே இருந்த உலர்ந்த கிளை உடைந்தது.

புலி உடனே அந்தச் சத்தத்தை நோக்கி திரும்பியது!

அருண் வேகமாக ஓடத் தொடங்கினான்.

புலியும் அவனைத் துரத்தியது.

முன்னால் குகை!

அருண் குகைக்குள் நுழைந்தான்.

புலி குகை வாசல் வரை வந்து நின்றது.

அருண் பயத்தில் நடுங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

அப்போது அவனுக்கு ஒரு யோசனை தோன்றியது.

குகையின் பின்புறத்தில் ஒரு சிறிய பாதை இருந்தது. அது மலையின் மறுபுறம் செல்வதை அவன் கவனித்தான்.

“இதுதான் என் வழி!”

அவன் அந்தப் பாதையில் மெதுவாக நகர்ந்தான்.

சிறிது நேரத்தில், குகையின் மறுபுறம் வெளியே வந்தான்.

ஆனால் அங்கே இன்னொரு ஆபத்து!

ஒரு கூட்டம் **காட்டு குரங்குகள்** மரங்களில் இருந்து அவனைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தன.

அருண் அசையாமல் நின்றான்.

குரங்குகள் கத்தத் தொடங்கின.

அந்த சத்தத்தைக் கேட்ட புலி குகைக்குள் இருந்து வெளியே வந்தது.

அருண் உடனே அருகிலிருந்த உயரமான பாறையின் மீது ஏறினான்.

புலி அவனை நோக்கி வந்துகொண்டிருந்தது.

அப்போது மேலிருந்த குரங்குகள் மரக்கிளைகளை அசைத்து, பழங்களையும் சிறு கிளைகளையும் கீழே போட்டன.

புலி குழப்பமடைந்தது.

அந்த நேரத்தில் தொலைவில் இருந்து ஒரு பெரிய **யானையின் பிளிறல்** கேட்டது.

புலி பயந்து காட்டுக்குள் ஓடிவிட்டது.

அருண் நிம்மதியாக மூச்சுவிட்டான்.

ஆனால் இன்னும் அவன் காட்டிலேயே இருந்தான்.

இரவு நெருங்கியது.

அவன் வானத்தைப் பார்த்தான்.

நட்சத்திரங்களின் திசையை வைத்து, அருகிலுள்ள ஆற்றை நோக்கி நடக்கத் தொடங்கினான்.

சிறிது நேரத்தில் ஆற்றின் சத்தம் கேட்டது.

ஆற்றங்கரையை அடைந்ததும், அவன் அங்கே மனிதர்கள் நடந்து சென்ற தடயங்களைப் பார்த்தான்.

“இந்தப் பாதை கிராமத்திற்குச் செல்லும்!”

என்று மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினான்.

அவன் அந்தப் பாதையில் தொடர்ந்து நடந்தான்.

சில மணி நேரங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, தொலைவில் தனது கிராமத்தின் விளக்குகள் தெரிந்தன.

அருண் மகிழ்ச்சியில் ஓடினான்.

கிராமத்தை அடைந்ததும், அனைவரும் அவனைச் சுற்றி நின்றனர்.

“எப்படி தப்பித்தாய்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அருண் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே சொன்னான்:

பார்வதி தேவி கொடுத்த கட்டளையை மட்டுமே மனதில் வைத்திருந்ததால், சிவபெருமானையே அவர் உள்ளே செல்ல அனுமதிக்கவில்லை.

இறுதியில் கோபத்தின் உச்சிக்குச் சென்ற சிவபெருமான், அந்தச் சிறுவனைத் தண்டிக்க முனைந்தார்.
